Training
PNWSAR hosts at least one evening and one weekend training session a month in addition to the countless hours of hands-on training while on actual searches. Each member is required to obtain a minimum of 32 training hours per year in addition to First Aid and SAR certifications.
Weekend Training events are held monthly and are open to prospective members (a completed application must be on file) and personnel of any SAR group from the Mt. Hood Council. If you belong to another OSSA-certified SAR group email us about attending.
Each month the field training will focus on a much-needed skill, such as land navigation, medical skills, avalanche rescue, Stokes litter work, wilderness survival, tracking or snowshoe skills. While training typically falls on the third weekend of the month, actual dates are announced at the general meeting and are available on the group Calendar. Training locations and subjects vary, but are always a great time and great learning opportunity.
